EV Charging for Two-Car Garages: Panel Capacity, Tesla Wall Connectors and Load Management
One EV charger is a simple job in most homes. Two is where planning matters. A second car can double the load your panel has to carry overnight — on top of heating, cooling, the kitchen and everything else. Here is how we plan two-car charging in Toronto homes so both cars are full in the morning and nothing trips.
Start with the panel, not the charger
Every two-car plan starts with a load calculation: what your service is rated for, what the house already draws, and how much room is left for charging. Many older Toronto homes still have 100 amp service. Some can take two chargers with smart load management; others need a 100 amp to 200 amp upgrade first. We do the calculation before recommending anything, so you are not paying for an upgrade you don't need — or skipping one you do.
Option 1: Two chargers that share power
Some chargers, including Tesla Wall Connectors, can share one circuit between two units. When one car is charging alone it gets the full power; when both are plugged in, they split it. For most daily driving, both cars are still full by morning, and the electrical work stays simpler.
Option 2: Load management
An EV energy management device watches the whole house and pauses or slows charging when the home is close to its limit, then resumes automatically. In the right home it lets you add charging without a service upgrade.
Option 3: Upgrade the service
If the load calculation shows the house is near its limit already — or you are also planning a heat pump, hot tub, sauna or renovation — a 200 amp service upgrade is often the right long-term answer. We coordinate the Hydro disconnect and reconnect, the ESA permit and inspection, and install the chargers in the same job.
Tesla, and every other brand
Master electricians — we install every brand. Tesla Wall Connectors, ChargePoint and other Level 2 chargers all follow the same rules: correct circuit sizing, a proper location for both parking spots, weather protection for outdoor units, and an ESA permit and inspection.
Plan for the next car now
If you have one EV today and expect a second, say so at the start. Running the cable for the second charger during the first installation costs far less than coming back later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I install two EV chargers on a 100 amp panel?
Sometimes — with power sharing or load management, depending on what the house already draws. The load calculation decides it.
Do Tesla Wall Connectors support power sharing?
Yes. Wall Connectors can share power between units so two cars charge from one circuit.
Do I need an ESA permit for an EV charger in Ontario?
Yes. We file the permit and coordinate the inspection as part of the job.
Can you also upgrade my panel?
Yes. We plan the load, upgrade the panel or service if needed, and install the chargers in one job.
