Does the ESA Permit and Inspection Cost Extra on a Panel Upgrade?
Short answer: with Tron Electrical the ESA permit and inspection coordination are included in the quoted price. You do not get a surprise line item afterward.
For the service itself, see Electrical Panel Upgrades in Toronto & the GTA.
What the permit covers
Every panel or service change in Ontario legally requires an ESA notification and inspection. We pull the permit under our ECRA/ESA licence, complete the work to code, meet the inspector on site, and give you the ESA certificate.
Included in our quoted ranges
- 100 amp to 200 amp service upgrade — $3,500 to $5,000+
- 100 amp panel replacement — $2,000 to $3,500
- Fuse box to breaker conversion — $2,500 to $3,500
- Subpanel installation — $1,000 to $1,500
The Hydro disconnect and reconnect scheduling is also handled by us, not by you.
Can you skip it?
No. Unpermitted panel work commonly surfaces during an insurance review or a home sale, and the fix is usually opening the work back up for inspection. Insurers ask for the certificate, and so do buyers' lawyers.
What can add cost
Deficiencies the inspector requires corrected, such as grounding and bonding upgrades, unsafe splices, knob-and-tube or aluminum branch wiring. We flag these at the on-site assessment wherever they are visible, so the quote holds.
